what is 0545 military time equivalent to in regular time?

When dealing with time in the military, it is important to understand that it uses a 24-hour clock system. Military time is designated by a four-digit number. The first two digits designate the hours, while the last two designate the minutes. This system of time keeping is different from the 12-hour clock used in civilian life, and numbers 13 through 24 in military time are used for afternoon and evening hours civilian's may recognize as 1:00 pm to 12:00 pm on a regular clock.

For example, 0545 military time would be 05:45 in terms of a regular 12-hour clock. This translates to 5:45 am on a 12-hour clock or 5 hours and 45 minutes into the day (Regardless of AM/PM). 0545 Military Time or 0545 hours may be expressed using either verbal communication or numerals. Verbal communications would include the phrase "zero five forty-five" or just "oh-five forty-five".

Military time is often used in schedules, memos and instructions that involve high levels of accuracy and coordination within various branches of the armed forces - Air Force, Army, Navy, Marines and Coast Guard included. For example when scheduling flight operations or medical appointments as there can be no misinterpretations leading to potential confusion down the line. To minimise such potential issues it has become standard practice across all branches of the military to use 24 hour clocks for this very reason; precision accuracy for the purpose of greater safety on operations and elsewhere!
